Mara, Yoga Teacher. She Smiles Yoga

19 March 2018

Something that I have found along the way of my yogi stalking journey is that many individuals come to yoga at a point in their lives in which they feel they've either lost their way or are simply finding something is missing. Meeting these amazing individuals has brought an immense joy to my life and although I haven't moved from my career in fashion yet, I intend to change this one day and join the yoga community.
Similar to my latest interview with the lovely Italian yogi Mara, who turned her career into her dream one and with over 23k following her every backbend, she has certainly made an impact in the years she's been practicing.

How did yoga come into your life and how did it change you?

I first discover yoga two years ago. A friend of mine just became teacher and she was looking for private clients. At the time I had taken just a few public classes and I was feeling quite confused (I come from a very little village in Italy and for most of my life I didn’t know even know yoga existed!). I thought a one-to-one class could help me understand better the movements and what yoga was all about. And it did, and I fell in love with it straight away. Although it wasn’t until last January that I started to practice it daily. After a long period of feeling down and lost in a negative circle from which I couldn’t see a way out, one day I decided I had enough of crying over myself and do nothing about it. So day after day I showed up on my mat and I changed my life. As I grew stronger physically, I felt more and more powerful mentally. Through yoga I learned how to believe in myself and some healthy self-love. And slowly but steady I was able to change those things about my life I didn’t like. It’s a constant work in progress of course, but I never felt more powerful and confident in my own skin than now!

What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the “real world”? What advice should they ignore?

Don’t take it too seriously. Follow your heart and your ambitions but remember to have fun along the way! Find what you love doing and don’t settle for a job just because it pays the bills!

In the last five years, what new belief, behaviour, or habit has most improved your life?

I always believed in the power of positivity. You attract the energy you give. That didn’t change. But definitely in the past five years I spiritually grew so much and I have now much more knowledge of what is good for me and what nourish my body and mind. From doing movement daily, to eat healthier (and from the beginning of this year going for a vegetarian diet).

What's your wellness tip for 2018?!

Yoga, have a good sleep, meditate, drink lots of water and be nice to yourself! :)

Where do you breath, sweat and refuel in London?

I often prefer to practice at home and I don’t really have a studio where I go to all the time. I like to always try different places and different teachers. But you’ll find me more often to the small, local studio than the big and more popular one. I feel they have more genuine love to give.

What can you not live without?

My bed!!! :)

It was a real pleasure to meet this lovely lady and I suggest you all do the same at one of her classes.. check out her latest schedule here
