Marie Sloth Rousing started her brand in 2015 after graduating from Kolding School of
Design, Rousing’s designs push the boundaries of conventional silhouettes but with a
simplistic colour palate. I stumbled across her recently and loved the
simplicity and form of her clothing, I simply had to find out more about the
thought process behind this talented designer.
Why did you
decide to be a designer and what do you love about it?
I have always loved
to create and to learn how to make new things. So in a quite young age I knew I
wanted to be a designer. I love working with materials and creating shape in
context with the body. Changing 2D patterns into 3D shapes.
What is your
latest collection about?
My latest collection
is named In Between. My starting point for the collection was a curiosity about
the meeting between clothing and room. During the project I discovered that my
interest was mainly for the gab between the
two.
Therefore I created
five silhouettes and a short film showing the space in-between in five states.
In each state I am describing the space in different ways under the titles:
State 1: Disappearance, State 2: Retention, State 3: Capture, State 4:
Modulation, State 5: Release.
What inspires
you?
I think everything
around me is able to inspire me. It is not so much that the inspiration is but
more about how you work with it.
Best advice
anyone has ever given you?
Work for you goals
and trust you work.
What has been
you best moment since starting up your brand?
Showing my In Between
short film and some styles from the collection at Sabine Poupinel’s exhibition
Fan_Out in Copenhagen during Copenhagen Fashion Week 2015.
