My latest emerging designer stalk is Daniela Geraci, an
illustrator and print designer. Her final major project was titled ‘Too Hard
to Care’ is a luxury collection of glitter coated textural and illustrative prints.
Why did you decide to
get into fashion?
I always loved playing
dress up and drawing as a kid and when I was 10 years old I read an article in
a magazine about fashion design - and thats when I realised it could be an
actual career, so from then onwards it's what I wanted to do.
What is your latest
collection about?
I am a Textiles
designer for fashion so the concept is always translated through textiles, and
the silhouette comes later. My last collection ‘Too Hard to Care’ is
about how people often dismiss the lives of animals in order to purchase luxury
fur products because they simply find it 'too hard to care' to think about where
it came from and whose skin the product belonged to before it was killed purely
for fashion products. I was particularly looking at the recent angora rabbit
fur scandal which I found horrifying. I created a luxury collection of
glitter coated textural and illustrative prints. The collection is
unquestionably effeminate, but has a subversive edge to it.
What inspires you?
Film, music and books
always influence me massively. I am drawn to 'outsider' characters both real
and fictional portrayals. I like to represent those whose voices aren't always
heard through art and fashion. The most interesting people I have met are the
ones who are not very sociable!
Best advice anyone has
ever given you?
Don't try to please
other people or wait for their approval. Everybody has different opinions, be
confident with your own decisions and ideas, aim to please yourself at the end
of it not others.
What has been you best
moment since starting up your brand?
When I’ve sold some of
my work, it boosts your confidence when you can sell things you have made with
your own two hands.
Five items you can't
live without?
My laptop for access
to films and music! A bottle of wine (much needed in your final year of
university), my collection of vintage nightwear, oil paints, and a sketchbook.
