As we enter into May the time comes to start thinking of wedding dresses for the 'season' which is fast approaching. I have my first wedding in June, in the beautiful countryside of Leicestershire.. the question is now, what do I wear!!! As I was searching online for something a little bit different I came across this little gem of a designer, whose flying the flag high for couture!
What do you do and
why did you decide to start your own brand?
I am a fashion
designer; I started my first collection with an haute couture line. I decided
to go with high end so I can go all out and be as creative as possible. I have
always loved evening gowns but never found what I really wanted, so I decided
to create my own dresses and that's how it all started. I love mixing edgy with
elegant and that is reflected in my first collection.
It’s been a real journey but definitely worth itJ.
I am now working on my RTW Collection so watch this space….
What do you love
about Couture Vs RTW?
What I love about couture is that they are one off’s and you wont see other people wearing the
same design. Even though it's more expensive, you know that this dress is made
for you and you won't have to worry you will see many wearing the exact same
dress as yours. Also you can design the dress you love in your own way and make
it how you want it. You can go all out and put as much details as you want.
In RTW your designs
have to be limited when it comes to details as the price point is much lower.
It is simpler and should be more wearable. You have to make sure it's simple
but also different to other brands as you have so many competitors. You also
need to know that ready to wear is very fast and hard work. You need to have
four seasons which are four collections a years rather than couture you can
take more time working on one collection as there are only two collections a
year. In RTW you constantly work on new ideas and designs and need a bigger
team and factory.
What inspired your
latest collection?
My debut collection
was inspired by the modern duchess. I wanted my dresses to be elegant but
have an edge to them. It's hard to find beautiful dresses that are elegant but
also very stylish. The fabrics I used were very strong and had the sense of
royalty. I also used gold metal and ostrich feathers in some dresses.
Who are your favourite designers?
I personally love Saint Laurent, Balmain, Roksanda Ilincic and Chanel.
Where do you shop
and eat in London?
I usually shop in
Harvey Nichols Harrods and Selfridges. I sometimes go to Dover St Market. Most
of the shopping I do is online where I use websites such as Net-a-Porter, ASOS,
Luisa Veroma and Shopbop.
My favourite
restaurants in London are Zuma, Arts club, Coya, Cipriani and Sumosan.
How would you
describe your personal style?
Elegant but with an
edge. I love layering clothes.
What five items can
you not live without?
My phone
Internet
Laptop
My hot water bottle
(as I’m always cold, it's my portable heater hah ha) or even a heater
Perfume
This is the little number I'm wearing for my June wedding!
