Johnny Wang is the founder and designer of the very exciting emerging fashion brand, by is pushing the boundaries of how we look at everyday garments. After graduating in 2012, he started the brand BCollide, his latest collection; OCD TEST OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is
a study of different obsessive and compulsive reactions to an often ignored
phenomenon that is 'mis-alignment'.
I caught up with him about his brand and his love this industry.
What do you love about being a designer and
how did you get into fashion?
I’m a designer as well as an entrepreneur, as
I’m designing for the label, and also running the business. I love pushing my
limits and exhausting resources to build and grow the collection and the
business. I studied media and communications before I got into the fashion.
Almost all my friends tried to convince me to become a designer. There was a
point when I was on a very reputable TV Production programme and took a leap of
faith, and switched to fashion design.
What influences your designs?
Everything around me influences me. My observations, reflections, and conversations with interesting people.

What are you most proud of so far in your
work?
We held a private preview in December 2014. Seeing guests trying the clothes on and making private orders have been the highlight since the incorporation of the company. One of my private clients said that the clothes transformed once worn on the body, and that the clothes were unique but also easily styled into an outfit.
If you could live in another city where would it
be and why?
I’d visit another city, but not live there. I can’t picture myself
living anywhere else apart London. I may change in the future and start wishing
to reside. Let’s see.
What advice would you
give to fashion students graduating this year?
Be delightful, diligent, and determined.
Be delightful, diligent, and determined.
Where do you shop in
London and where do you eat?
My studio is in Soho.
I shop at places near my studio now, and only shop rarely. I also shop online
sometimes for things I really want but are only stocked by an independent shop
overseas. For food and drinks (and service), I like Barshu and Bob Bob Ricard
in Soho, Bumpkin and The Pembroke on Old Brompton Road, The Bridge and The Red
Lion in Barnes.
Five items you can't
live without?
My vintage yellow
citrine ring, the moral for life my mum passed onto me, my goals, teas, my
newly appointed studio manager Jennifer!
That's so cool!
