Instagram is growing
by the second, with some accounts knowing exactly how to market themselves on
this social platform. They use it more as an artform rather than a pictorial
version of their facebook page, planning carefully each photograph to work with
one another so their overall profile looks super sleek as a whole. I recently
stumbled across one of these accounts; Fashion With Bangs, is one of the
beautiful ones with over 3.5K following her every move!
Prior to all the
fashion weeks around the world, I caught up with Robin, a Netherlands based
instagramer and visual merchandiser on how she plans and executes her instagram
feed and what she loves about fashion week. Also she’s thrown in a few tips on
how to up your likes and followers on Instgram!!
What principals do you install when planning your Instagram posts?
Mix and match is something I always keep in mind. Quotes, inspiration, outfits, flat-lays, you name it. I also really think about the layout and when I post what picture. I try to use as many pictures that are made by myself. If I use someone else's pic, and I know the name, I always give credits by tagging.
What do you do?
I recently start working at COS, as a backup Visual Merchandiser. Before that I was Store Manager in a menswear store.
Tips to beginner
instagrammers?
Post the things you
like and you get inspired by, that's what I love about Instagram. I don't use
the filters, just Photoshop for highlighting and colour change.
If we're talking about
gaining followers, HASHTAGS!! But only use the ones that fit the image in some
way. Otherwise you end up losing followers. Placing comments below other
people's pictures also helps, because you get noticed. Don't copy without
giving credits (only if you know who's pic it is). The pictures that get the
most likes on my account are the FWIS (from where I stand).
Which fashion weeks do
you attend and what impact do you think Instagram and social media has on this
event?
Just visited one
fashion week, in Amsterdam, but that was before I started Instagram. When there
is a fashion week, I always search on Instagram for photos. It's the fastest
media to get a glimpse of the new collections!
Where do you see the
world Instagram progressing in 5 years time?
I see Instagram
growing and growing. Not so weird, because like a said, it's one of the fastest
kind of media. Take a pic, place it, write a few hashtags and done! Brands are
also making Instagram accounts, so people can tag them in their own pics. Free
advertising! There is a lot of potential in Instagram!
How would you describe
your personal style?
I'm kind of a
modernist, my wardrobe contains a lot of black, white, stripes and denim.
Mainly key items, basics, but not boring. I love an all black outfit,
combined with clean white sneakers. Simplicity is something I always keep
in mind, so I don't need that much accessories! A single ring, watch and a
great bag do the trick for me!
Five items you can't
live without?
Of course my family,
friends and boyfriend, but I wouldn't call them items! So I guess (and I know
it's such a cliché) my iPhone! Also my favourite high waisted black skinny
jeans by Monki (perfect fit and affordable)! Lip balm, I always carry it in my
bag. Red fruits, especially raspberries and strawberries! Even though I
have a hate-love relationship with my bangs, I don't think I ever getting rid
of them!!
So lovely! I enjoyed this post a lot. Happy weekend. :)
