Stalked: Katie Lightfoot, Fashion Agent and Fashion Designer Of Mercy Delta

17 November 2014

I have to admit I'm a real sucker for a silk shirt, especially the beautiful veriety that the brand Mercy Delta has to offer. The designer behind the brand started it after her love of fashion became too much for her not to become a designer herself. Please meet Katie, the brains and talent behind Mercy Delta and the fashion agent of the likes of Sunday Somewhere.

What do you do and what's the coolest aspect about it?

I'm a fashion agent and designer with my own label, Mercy Delta. Manufacturing is pretty full on, and there is not much time for glamour. But I love meeting with the many buyers who’ve become friends over the years. They are the cool side of my business!

Why did you decide to start your own brand and what's been the toughest part of it?

One of my buyer friends was looking for a new luxury scarf label, and Mercy Delta was founded to supply that need. We moved into silk blouses two seasons later, again to meet demand from the stores. I’d have to say production is pretty tough, especially as I have a global team. Lots of late nights, lots of travel.

What has been the main inspiration for your AW14 collection?

Twists on classics. We’ve been inspired by the chinese new year of the horse  (2014) taking our key signature animal prints and combining this with our travels. Our colour palette this autumn explores the 4 elements, we've introduced a midnight ombre in our prints inspired by colours from the deep ocean.

What designers or brands do you love at the moment?

I’m fiercely loyal to Stella McCartney and the always-amazing Isabel Marant. I’m also never out of my Sunday Somewhere shades this year (though I’m biased because we represent them!).

Where do you shop and eat in London?

I love shopping in Anthropologie for the home, Space NK for beauty, for my denim and everyday basics i live in Trilogy. Working in central london, i'm so lucky to have access to so many fab stores! For that something special i can hop along to Liberty, Matches and Harvey Nichols. To eat, Berners Tavern is an indulgent treat, and literally on our door step. But being based in Noho, we are spoilt for choice. Financially perilous.

Five items you can't live without?

My By Terry rose de baume for my lips, my Handbag Butler (it’s a chic little clutch that also charges your iPhone),  my daily coconut water (this i call my life juice and my must have daily fix on my travels and at the office), 'Eric’ who is my huge and charismatic Sophie Hulme keyring, and a Mercy Delta Cashmere wrap (my comfort blanket, and my suit of armour).

I adore all your comments!
