STALKED: Ekaterina Kukhareva, Fashion Designer.

2 June 2014

Having been a Central Saint Martin's graduate myself, supporting fellow alumni is one of my favourite things when it comes to interviewing up and coming talent. My most recent stalk; Ekaterina Kukhareva, who launched herself into the fashion world with a pretty spectacular knitwear line in 2011 after graduating with a BA in textiles.  She specialises in hand worked macramé, crochet, fringing and knotting mixed with machine knitted unique jacquards, in bold and bright colours, add elaborate glamour to Ekaterina's collections and make the timeless pieces stand out. A personal favourite of mine is her AW13 collection which can be found here on
With the sun shining, I quizzed Ekaterina on her style, latest collection and why she loves doing what she does.

What do you do and why do you love your job?

I am a knitwear fashion designer and I love my job because it allows me to experiment and be creative in textiles and fashion.

What are your influences?

I get influenced a lot by visual things: it can be something I see on a street, in books, magazines online, people that pass by and their streetstyle. Music also influences me a lot.

How did you get into fashion?

After graduating from  Central Saint Martin’s and doing some work experiences I have decided to create something of my own design. Thus the SS11 collection was created. Since then I have been showing 2 collection a year.

Would you say your personal style influences your designs?

Yes I would definitely say that. I have noticed that every time I am designing a new collection and I am subconsciously thinking about it all the time. I tend to dress in the way of the theme for the next season be it a top or a skirt or shoes. I tend to work a lot with colours and yarns and sometimes I notice that I would wear all of the colours that I work with for this particular season.

Where do you shop in London and where do you eat?

Since I have been in the industry I tend not to do as much shopping as before.  If I see an item online or on instagram I would go directly to a designer shop or buy it online, but it would be shopping for a specific coat or ring or earrings.  I love shopping on that is one of my addictions.

For food I love going  locally where I live to Orange on Orange Square, but I also like to discover places with great food that maybe not as popular, but may take sometime to get to. A recent discovery is Pebble Beach in Hampshire. It is a must go place in the Summer!

Five items you can't live without?

My I-phone.
Moo sunglasses-they just go with anything.
Deep Sleep Pillow Spray by This Works.
 Bronzer by Tom Ford.
My most comfortable and stylish shoes by Bymba and Lola.
