Stalked: Vivien Chong, Fashion Designer
11 February 2014
In the spirit of new British talent, I would like you to meet, Vivien Chong! Vivien recently graduated from the Ba (Hons) Fashion Print course at the world renowned Central Saint Martins. Her hand-pleated graduate collection was inspired by the amazing architecture of Steven Holl, where light and shadow seem to dance through the buildings he designed.
What do you do and why do you love your job?
I just recently graduated from Central Saint Martins last summer with a degree in fashion print. After graduation, I kind of took a breather for a few months and I am now currently working towards setting up an online store. Why do I love designing? I guess its because my imagination could run as free as possible and everything is a possibility. I love being creative and making the final product from my sketches a reality.
Where do you get your inspirations from?
Anywhere and everywhere! Usually my starting point comes from images I gathered during one of my travels or a piece of art work that I came across and love.
What's next for your brand?
I am in the progress of making an affordable and wearable version of my collection as well as making accessories to go with the look as well. So stay tuned!
Where can we buy your label?
It's still work in progress at the moment but you can visit my blog vivienpeixuan.tumblr.com. The link for my soon-to-be-launched online shop would be posted on there.
How would you describe your personal style?
I don't really have a specific style, I usually just wear what I think looks good on me. I do love clothes with an interesting texture though or an interesting print.
Where do you like to shop?
Everywhere, but I do shop on the high street as it's affordable otherwise I like going to vintage shops such as Rokit as you will never know what you could find with every visit! Also, ebay.
Favourite designer at the moment?
Humberto Leon and Carol lim at Kenzo, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig at Marchesa.
Five items you can't live without?
My phone, macbook, reading glasses, this white gold ring my parents gave me, as vain as it sounds ... my hair straightener.
