Barcelona Day Two: Gaudi On Happy Pills..

24 April 2012

Day Two in this glorious city was Gaudi day.. after being totally wowed the day before when walking around I couldn’t wait to don my sight-seeing hat and see his famous creations up close and personal!

Casa Batllo was my first stop and wowzers, it was breathe taking, his architecture heavily draws on nature, this building in particular was designed with the ocean in mind. Curves and water ripples in the ceiling, a light shaft down the centre brings in an abundance of light, I would happily have this as my Barcelona pad!  After this we wondered to another masterpiece, The Sagrada Família his unfinished cathedral, two words – mind blowing! He died before it could be finished but he left detailed plans for it so it could be completed, it’s set to be finished in 2030.

There’s no doubt that sight-seeing is totally the new hard-core gym workout, I was exhausted by the afternoon and this was the perfect reason to pop into my new favourite sweet shop,  Happy Pills! As you walk into the bright white modern sweet shop you kind of feel like you should be walking into a doctors room, as pill bottles fill the shelves with pink lettering of ‘happy pills’. Once you have chosen your pill pot then it’s the fun part; sweeeeetie time, of course I did mine all on colouring and went for pinks and whites. After you have stuffed your perspex pill box full of yummy-ness its label choosing time – labels are lined up with different wording like, Happy Pills: ‘to make you prettier than your friends’ or ‘for happiness’ or ‘wild pregnancy’ (the mind boggles with the later!)

Finally of course I wouldn’t be able to survive a day without shopping, so I popped to the fashionable boutique area of La Ribera, here awesome cafes, restaurants and shops line the old streets of Barcelona. I found this charming vintage shop tucked away, vintage sunnies galore,  I was in 1950s heaven!

For Gaudi day, I wore my fav new DIY dip-dye jeans, All Saints jacket, and Louis Vuitton scarf and changed scarfs for the church to a silk vintage.
